Fortress Clash is the kind of game that doesn't require much instruction. You open it, and monsters swarm in, while you focus on building defenses to hold your base. Initially, it looks similar to many other tower defense games, but after playing for a while, you realize the game forces players to constantly pay attention, not just place a few towers and wait.
The first few waves are quite light, so many people tend to be overconfident. But after just a few levels, the number of monsters increases rapidly. Sometimes, before you've even finished upgrading, a new wave arrives. So, instead of focusing on building your economy, you have to prioritize saving your base.
What sets Fortress Clash apart is that it doesn't just require players to stand and defend. Besides holding your base, you also have to expand your territory to gather more resources. And each expansion easily leaves your rear defenses vulnerable.
This is what makes the game more confusing than you might imagine. Sometimes, when you're eager to conquer more land, your main base runs out of troops. Conversely, focusing solely on defending your base will result in very slow resource accumulation, making it difficult to withstand larger waves of monsters later on.
Initially, most players simply place towers wherever there's space. However, later on, positioning becomes significantly more important. Some monsters move in large groups, and placing towers in the right spot allows for quick elimination. A slight misplacement allows monsters to easily enter.
The game also features various troop types and structures, requiring a progressive build. Some levels prioritize serious damage output, while others prioritize slowing down monsters to buy time.
Fortress Clash primarily uses the mouse:
The game doesn't require complex combos or maneuvers; it's mainly about situational awareness and resource allocation to avoid running out of resources during battle.
A similarity to many modern arcade strategy games is that Fortress Clash is fast-paced. Losing doesn't take too long, so players often replay the game immediately. Sometimes you just want to try "one more round" to see how long you can last.
The game's graphics are simple and cartoonish, so they're not too hard on the eyes. Even when the screen gets chaotic with many monsters, it's still easier to see than many other tower defense games.
